Eugenol (66–84%) reversibly blocks voltage-gated sodium channels and inhibits substance-P release at peripheral nociceptors, producing localised pain-numbing and warming sensation.

Anti-inflammatory (COX inhibition)

Eugenol inhibits COX-1 and COX-2 cyclooxygenase enzymes, reducing prostaglandin and thromboxane A2 synthesis, with downstream anti-inflammatory and analgesic effects on inflamed tissue.

Antimicrobial — broad-spectrum
