DIFFERENT FAMILY from Atlas + Himalayan cedarwoods (those are Cedrus Pinaceae). Steam-distilled from heartwood + sawdust/shavings. Low-risk oil with no formal T&Y contraindications.
- Chemistry = α-cedrene 21.1–38.0% + thujopsene 18.7–32.0% + cedrol 5.5–20.3% + β-cedrene 3.9–7.2% + widdrol 1.0–3.0% + β-himachalene traces + cuparene + α-selinene. Sesquiterpene hydrocarbons dominate (≈60%) + sesquiterpene alcohols (≈25%). No monoterpene oxidation concerns. Composition-wise SHARPLY distinct from Atlas/Himalayan (those = himachalene/atlantone profiles, ZERO cedrene).
- Hazards: "None known" per T&Y (B216 p.515). Contraindications: None known. No specific pregnancy, pediatric, or drug-interaction flags. Framework dilution applies.
- Cedrol is the standout constituent — antitussive (Kagawa et al 2003), sedative + anxiolytic (Dayawansa et al 2003), hair-growth co-factor in older alopecia protocols (though those studies used mixed cedarwood oils). Not unique to Virginian but present in significant %.
- "Cedarwood" species-discriminator rail (CRITICAL): Virginian = Cupressaceae / Juniperus / α-cedrene dominant. Atlas (Cedrus atlantica) + Himalayan (Cedrus deodara) = Pinaceae / true Cedrus / himachalene dominant. Texan (Juniperus ashei) = Cupressaceae like Virginian but different species (more cedrol-rich). China (Cupressus funebris) = Cupressaceae Cupressus genus. DO NOT inherit Virginian safety profile onto Atlas/Himalayan (different chemistry → different risk calculus) or vice versa.
