Endemic to Atlas mountains of Morocco + Algeria. Steam-distilled from heartwood + sawdust. IUCN status: Endangered — wild harvest in Morocco restricted; most commercial material from Moroccan state-managed plantations. Different family + chemistry from Virginian (Juniperus).
- Chemistry = β-himachalene 30.8–40.4% + α-himachalene 10.9–17.0% + γ-himachalene 7.1–13.0% + (E)-α-atlantone 1.9–6.9% + deodarone 2.0–5.2% + himachalol 2.5–4.8% + allo-himachalol + cis-atlantone + acora-3,5-diene. Sesquiterpene hydrocarbons (himachalenes ≈65%) + sesquiterpene ketones (atlantones ≈5–10%) + sesquiterpene alcohols (himachalols ≈5%). ZERO α-cedrene / thujopsene (those = Virginian).
- Hazards: None known per T&Y (B216 p.511). T&Y does NOT contraindicate pregnancy but sesquiterpene-ketone content (atlantones) warrants framework-cautious pregnancy caps. Traditional Chinese + North African materia medica historically listed cedrus as emmenagogue → folklore-precaution only, not T&Y-backed.
