Tóm Tắt Khoa Học

Từ Thư Viện Kinh Điển
  1. Myrocarpus fastigiatus Allemão (Fabaceae/Leguminosae) — wood steam-distillate. Synonym: Cabureicica. Brazilian/Argentine native; oil distilled from waste chippings + sawdust of the very-hard timber in Brazil.
  2. Primary hazard = None known. T&Y verbatim: "Hazards: None known. Contraindications: None known." Clean toxicological + dermal profile.
  3. Chemistry: (Z)-Nerolidol c65–80% (signature sesquiterpene alcohol) + farnesol 2.5% (Lawrence 1989 p.63; Lawrence 1995g p.90–91). Very clean near-monoconstituent nerolidol profile — rare for a wood oil.
  4. Undiluted moderately irritating to rabbits but NOT to mice or pigs; 6% on 25 volunteers = neither irritating nor sensitizing; non-phototoxic (Opdyke & Letizia 1982 p.645). Acute oral + dermal LD50 > 5 g/kg.
  5. Species-confusion rail (CRITICAL): Myrocarpus frondosus (source of "Caboré" oil) may also be sold as cabreuva — some commercial confusion between the two Myrocarpus species. Verify Latin name + GC-MS nerolidol percentage per lot.

Pha Chế & Hòa Hợp

Sedative / CNS-calming

Nerolidol, a major sesquiterpene alcohol constituent, exhibits CNS-depressant activity in preclinical models, consistent with GABA-A receptor modulation reported at the constituent level.

Ref: Tisserand & Young 2014, Ch.14 — Nerolidol constituent profile

Anxiolytic / grounding

Traditional aromatherapy use of wood-type sesquiterpene alcohol oils for grounding and emotional centering; nerolidol's sedative constituent profile supports inhalation-route anxiolytic positioning.

Ref: Tisserand & Young 2014, Ch.13 p.485–486

Antimicrobial — broad-spectrum

Farnesol disrupts bacterial membrane integrity and inhibits quorum sensing, conferring well-documented broad-spectrum antibacterial activity at the constituent level.

Ref: Tisserand & Young 2014, Ch.14 — Farnesol constituent profile

Antifungal

Farnesol acts as a quorum-sensing inhibitor in Candida albicans, suppressing biofilm formation and hyphal transition — a mechanism thoroughly characterised in the constituent literature.

Ref: Tisserand & Young 2014, Ch.14 — Farnesol constituent profile

Anti-inflammatory

Nerolidol has demonstrated inhibition of NF-κB-mediated pro-inflammatory cytokine pathways in in vitro models, supporting topical anti-inflammatory application.

Ref: Tisserand & Young 2014, Ch.14 — Nerolidol constituent profile

Skin-conditioning / cicatrisant

Farnesol is a widely-accepted cosmetic skin-conditioning ingredient that supports epidermal barrier function and promotes cellular renewal, underpinning cabreuva's traditional wound-healing and skin-care use.

Ref: Tisserand & Young 2014, Ch.14 — Farnesol constituent profile

AI-summary

Traditional aromatherapy use; no RCT-grade clinical evidence for the intact cabreuva oil has been located. Opdyke & Letizia (1982) conducted acute toxicity assays and volunteer dermal patch tests, confirming a favourable safety profile with no adverse reactions at tested concentrations — this is safety data, not therapeutic efficacy data. Therapeutic actions are supported by constituent-profile evidence for nerolidol (sedative, anti-inflammatory; T&Y Ch.14) and farnesol (antimicrobial, antifungal, skin-conditioning; T&Y Ch.14). Chemistry is documented by Lawrence (1989, 1995g). No controlled clinical trials for the whole oil appear in the available citations.

Phương phápLiều lượngGhi chú
Diffusion3–5 drops per 100 ml waterUse for grounding, stress-relief, and a calming atmosphere. Evening sessions of 30–60 minutes; well-tolerated for home use.
Topical massage1–2% in carrier oil (3–6 drops per 10 ml)Well within the 5% adult dermal maximum. Blend with sweet almond or jojoba for full-body or back massage targeting tension.
Skincare blend0.5–1% in carrier oil or unscented creamSuited to mature and dry skin formulations. Farnesol supports barrier function. Avoid eye area; patch test for sensitive skin.
Direct inhalation1–2 drops on a tissue or personal inhaler wickFor acute stress; 3–5 short inhalations. Do not ingest. Keep out of reach of children.
Bath4–6 drops dispersed in 1 tbsp bath emulsifier or full-fat milkAlways pre-disperse before adding to water to prevent undiluted skin contact. Suitable for relaxation; avoid with very sensitive or broken skin.

Dầu nền phù hợp

JojobaLightweight, non-comedogenic, mimics skin sebum; ideal for facial and body applications and complements cabreuva's skin-conditioning profile.
Rosehip seedHigh in linoleic acid and β-carotene; synergistic with cabreuva's cicatrisant actions for mature, scarred, or sun-damaged skin.
Sweet almondClassic neutral massage carrier; mild inherent scent allows cabreuva's woody-floral character to remain the dominant note.
Fractionated coconutStable, odourless, oxidation-resistant; suitable for travel blends and diffuser pre-mixes where carrier freshness is a priority.
MarulaRich in oleic acid and natural antioxidants; pairs well with cabreuva for luxurious mature-skin serums and night-repair formulations.

§3 Chemical Profile — chemotype, constituent ranges, adulteration

Essential oil — Lawrence 1989/1995g

Constituent%
(Z)-Nerolidolc65–80%
Farnesol2.5%

Characterized total ~67.5–82.5% — balance (~17.5–32.5%) is minor sesquiterpene hydrocarbons + trace alcohols typical of Fabaceae wood distillates.

Chemistry insights

  • (Z)-Nerolidol dominant 65–80% — C15 acyclic sesquiterpene alcohol, trans-configured methyl arrangement. One of the cleanest natural nerolidol sources available commercially (comparable to Amyris + Brazilian niaouli + some Melaleuca species). Olfactory: soft-woody-floral-apple-green-mild; low odor strength but excellent fixative.
  • Farnesol 2.5% — closely-related C15 sesquiterpene alcohol (nerolidol's dehydro/allylic counterpart). Shares olfactive + biological profile. Both compounds have demonstrated anticarcinogenic properties (T&Y Ch.14 Constituent profiles).
  • Clean monoconstituent profile → safety profile is effectively (Z)-nerolidol safety profile. Nerolidol is one of the gentler sesquiterpene alcohols toxicologically.
  • Olfactory: Soft mild-woody-rosy-floral-sweet with subtle balsamic undertone. Lower intensity + longer fixative character than most wood oils — functions primarily as base-note extender in perfumery.
Công Dụng Trị Liệu Chi Tiết
§10 Therapeutic Uses — skin, emotional, physical, respiratory
  • Aromatherapy: Modest use — gentle calming, soft-supportive. Not a star performer; typically a supporting/anchoring role in blends.
  • Traditional (Brazilian/South American): Historical use of Myrocarpus barks + wood in regional folk medicine (wound care, mild antiseptic). Specific EO use post-dates tradition.
  • Perfumery (primary commercial use): Fixative base-note extender; niche woody-floral compositions; natural-nerolidol source for formulators avoiding synthetic nerolidol.
  • Research frontier: Nerolidol + farnesol anticarcinogenic in vitro signals (see T&Y Ch.14). Not clinically translated.

§11 Energetics — TCM, Ayurveda, aromatic energetics
  • Five-element: Mộc-Thổ (Wood–Earth — soft wood-anchoring character).
  • Not a primary Mojay materia medica entry (commercial presence post-1990s niche perfumery).
  • Yin-soft, anchoring, gently-supportive — base-extender energetic role paralleling its perfumery function.
