Tóm Tắt Khoa Học

Từ Thư Viện Kinh Điển
  1. Angelica archangelica L., Apiaceae. Source: seeds (fruit schizocarps); steam distillation. "Angelica Seed / European Angelica Seed / Hạt đương quy châu Âu". SAME SPECIES as [[angelica-root]] but DIFFERENT PLANT PART — radically different safety profile. β-Phellandrene-dominant; furanocoumarin content MUCH LOWER than root oil → NOT phototoxic at framework caps; CYP3A4 inhibition mild-at-most.
  2. Chemistry (Kerrola 1994 — via B216): β-Phellandrene 35.4–72.1% + α-Phellandrene 3.9–14.0% + α-Pinene 4.0–11.7% + Myrcene 0.6–9.3% + Limonene 2.7–8.0% + p-Cymene 0.2–4.5% + δ-3-Carene 0.5–3.2% + β-Pinene 0.4–2.5% + Sabinene trace–1.8% + Furanocoumarins: trace (<0.05%) (compare root oil 0.2–2.0%). β-Phellandrene-dominant — unusual high concentration for any EO.
  3. Hazards: Skin sensitization (monoterpene-autoxidation). Contraindications: None known. Max dermal: No T&Y numeric cap for seed — framework 3–5%. NOT phototoxic (furanocoumarin trace only). Drug interactions: Mild CYP3A4 signal only (<< root oil). GRAS.
  4. Seed-vs-root discriminator rail (CRITICAL): Same A. archangelica plant yields two commercial EOs with radically different safety profiles. SEED (this page) = monoterpene-hydrocarbon dominant, NOT phototoxic, NO clinically-meaningful CYP3A4 inhibition, framework dilution. ROOT ([[angelica-root]]) = monoterpene-hydrocarbon + furanocoumarin, PHOTOTOXIC (T&Y 0.8% dermal), FLAGSHIP CYP3A4 mechanism-based inhibitor. DO NOT substitute one for the other in either direction — phototoxic signal is plant-part specific.
  5. β-Phellandrene-dominant rail (UNIQUE): β-Phellandrene at 35–72% is one of the highest concentrations of this monoterpene in any commercial EO. Gives the oil its distinctive peppery-green-citrus-forward character + volatile top-note profile. Oxidation-prone like all monoterpene-hydrocarbons → antioxidant recommended for long-term storage.

Pha Chế & Hòa Hợp

carminative / digestive tonic

Monoterpene hydrocarbons (β-phellandrene dominant) may stimulate digestive secretions and reduce intestinal spasm, supporting traditional European use as a carminative and stomachic.

Ref: Tisserand & Young 2014, Ch.13 p.442

expectorant / mucolytic

β-Phellandrene and related monoterpene hydrocarbons are associated with mucociliary clearance support; inhalation may assist thinning of secretions in the upper respiratory tract.

Ref: class-extrapolation from β-Phellandrene (Ch.14 low-risk monoterpene profile, B216)

antispasmodic

Monoterpene-hydrocarbon-rich Apiaceae seed oils are traditionally associated with smooth-muscle relaxation relevant to digestive cramping and mild bronchospasm.

Ref: Tisserand & Young 2014, Ch.13 p.442

anxiolytic / nervine

Aromatic monoterpenes from Apiaceae family oils are associated with mild calming and grounding properties in traditional European herbal use; specific receptor mechanism not elucidated for this oil.

Ref: Tisserand & Young 2014, Ch.13 p.442

antimicrobial (in vitro)

β-Phellandrene and α-phellandrene class monoterpenes demonstrate inhibitory activity against common bacterial and fungal pathogens in in-vitro screening assays.

Ref: class-extrapolation from β-Phellandrene (Ch.14 low-risk monoterpene profile, B216)

anti-inflammatory (mild)

Monoterpene hydrocarbons including phellandrene isomers show mild anti-inflammatory activity in preclinical models, potentially through modulation of arachidonic acid cascade pathways.

Ref: class-extrapolation from β-Phellandrene (Ch.14 low-risk monoterpene profile, B216)

AI-summary

Traditional aromatherapy use; no RCT-grade clinical evidence located for angelica seed essential oil specifically. The primary quantitative data is safety-oriented: Opdyke (1975) reported that 4% angelica seed oil applied to 25 volunteers produced no irritation, sensitization, or phototoxicity — a clean human-patch result that establishes the safety baseline but does not address therapeutic efficacy. GC composition data (Kerrola 1994) confirms β-phellandrene dominance; therapeutic actions attributed to the oil are class-extrapolated from the broader Apiaceae / monoterpene-hydrocarbon literature and centuries of European traditional herbal use. No controlled studies on digestive, anxiolytic, or expectorant endpoints were identified in B216 Ch.13 or the associated citations provided.

Phương phápLiều lượngGhi chú
Diffusion3-5 drops per 100ml waterGrounding, mildly herbaceous atmospheric use. Limit sessions to 30-60 min in a ventilated room. Suitable for general adult use at standard diffuser dilution.
Topical massage1-4% in carrier oil (max dermal 4% adult)Non-phototoxic per Opdyke 1975 — no post-application UV restriction required, unlike angelica root oil. Use 1-2% for sensitive individuals. Jojoba or sweet almond recommended.
Abdominal compress2-3% in carrier oil on warm compressApply warm compress over abdomen for 10-15 min for digestive discomfort. Avoid if underlying acute or inflammatory abdominal condition is suspected.
Personal inhalation2-3 drops on tissue or personal inhalerShort sessions 5-10 min for on-demand calming or digestive support. Do not inhale concentrated oil continuously or in unventilated spaces.
Bath4-6 drops dispersed in bath dispersantMust be pre-dispersed in full-fat milk, neutral bath oil, or dedicated dispersant before adding to tub. Relaxing, warming; typical bath dilution is well within the 4% dermal cap.

Dầu nền phù hợp

JojobaStable wax-ester with very long shelf life; neutral profile does not compete with angelica seed's subtle peppery-herbaceous note; good pairing for monoterpene-dominant oils prone to mild oxidation.
Sweet Almond OilLight-medium viscosity suits full-body massage; mild emollient properties complement traditional digestive and nervine application contexts.
Fractionated Coconut OilOdorless, lightweight, and highly stable; ideal when maximum skin absorption is desired without a competing aroma from the carrier.

Chemistry insight:

  • β-Phellandrene-dominant (35-72%) — one of the highest natural concentrations of β-phellandrene in any commercial EO. Combined phellandrenes (α + β) ≈40-86%. Gives the oil a distinctive peppery-green-citrus-celery-forward top note.
  • Monoterpene-hydrocarbon backbone 85-95% — nearly pure monoterpene hydrocarbon (phellandrenes + pinenes + myrcene + limonene + carene). Volatile top-note chemistry; short dermal longevity; oxidation-prone.
  • Furanocoumarin trace (<0.05%) — the CRITICAL differentiator from root oil. Seed oil does not accumulate psoralen-family compounds; the biosynthetic pathway partitions furanocoumarins to root + leaf tissue, not seed. This is why seed oil is NOT phototoxic at framework dilutions despite same species as the phototoxic root oil.
  • NO thujone + NO phenol + NO phthalide — distinct from Artemisia/Sage/Ajowan/Angelica-glauca cluster. Pure monoterpene-hydrocarbon + volatile phellandrene profile.
  • Oxidation concern: β-phellandrene + α-phellandrene + α-pinene + δ-3-carene all autoxidize → peroxides + epoxides + cymenes → increased sensitization + olfactory degradation. Shelf-life + antioxidant discipline matters more than for phenol/sesquiterpenol oils.
  • Quality / adulteration: Common adulterants include (a) synthetic α-pinene + phellandrene blends, (b) fennel seed oil (cheaper, anethole-dominant — GC-distinguishable), (c) dilution with neutral carrier. Seed oil price ≈ $200-400/kg (lower than root oil $400-800/kg) — adulteration pressure is moderate.

§10 Therapeutic Uses — skin, emotional, physical, respiratory
  • Digestive support (oral + topical): Same traditional indications as root (carminative, digestive tonic, antispasmodic) but without the phototoxic + CYP3A4 burden — makes seed oil the preferred option for daily aromatherapy digestive use.
  • Respiratory (inhalation + diffusion): Bronchitis, congestion, lymphatic stagnation. Light, volatile monoterpenes suit diffusion.
  • Perfumery top-note: 0.5–2% for herbaceous-green-peppery accords.
  • Substitute for root oil when phototoxicity is a concern: Summer outdoor use; high-UV occupations; children; patients on polypharmacy. Olfactory character is different (lighter, less musky) — not an exact aromatic replacement but a safer functional alternative.
Năng Lượng & Ngũ Hành
§11 Energetics — TCM, Ayurveda, aromatic energetics
  • Five-element: Kim (Metal — Lung respiratory affinity, top-note Qi) + Thổ (Earth — digestive Spleen support).
  • European folk heritage: Seed oil is the gin + bitters + vermouth flavour tradition; less associated with "archangelic protection" symbolism than root.
